Today (Monday) I’m down along the southern border in Texas and New Mexico to meet with border officials and get a first-hand understanding of the crisis caused by President Biden’s immigration policies. I’ll post more information about this trip soon.Remember: President Trump also faced a surge of illegal immigration back in 2019. Three of the major causes of that included: (A) Trump’s booming economy here in the U.S., (B) his effective efforts to secure the border, which created a “go now or never” mindset with smugglers, and (C) unrest in a few South American countries.Do you recall how Mr. Trump responded to this surge? Did he reverse course? Did he stop building the wall? Did he make it easier for people to come here illegally and then never show up for their immigration hearings? No, he stayed the course on policies he knew would soon help the problem. And by the summer of 2019, border apprehensions started to plummet according to data from the U.S. Customs & Border Patrol. There were still problems, of course, but things got significantly better.Within days of taking office, however, Mr. Biden stopped new construction of the border wall. He suspended the removal of most people with active deportation orders. He ended Trump’s policy requiring South American asylum seekers to remain in Mexico while their claims were processed. And now congressional Democrats are even proposing amnesty! So it should surprise NOBODY that we now have a new surge on our southern border. Last month, there were over 172,000 apprehensions along our southern border, shattering all recent records. This surge has completely overwhelmed our Border Patrol and is causing a major humanitarian crisis.Sadly, our President and Vice President are NOWHERE TO BE FOUND on this issue. I’ll have more to report from our southern border soon. ... See MoreSee Less

The South Carolina Republican Creed

I do not choose to be a common man. It is my right to be uncommon.

If I can seek opportunity, not security, I want to take the calculated risk to dream and build, to fail and to succeed. I refuse to barter incentive for dole.

I prefer the challenges of life to guaranteed security, the thrill of fulfillment to the stale calm of utopia.

I will not trade freedom for beneficence, nor my dignity for a handout.

I will never cower before any master, save my God.

It is my heritage to stand erect, proud and unafraid. To think and act for myself, enjoy the benefit of my creations; to face the whole world boldly and say, “I am a free American.”
